What will your In-Home Pet Euthanasia appointment include?

Your Privacy

During this delicate time you can take comfort in knowing that Dr. Audrey respects the sensitive nature of what you are going through. Just as she cares about providing the most peaceful and gentle procedure for your pet, Dr. Audrey also cares about your privacy and confidentiality. She understands how personal this is for you and your family, and will use discretion before, during, and after your appointment.

Consultation

By the time you have scheduled your appointment with Dr. Audrey, you most likely will have already had your phone consultation with her, but she will also give you an in person consultation to make sure that you understand the euthanasia procedure, address any of your concerns about having your pet euthanized, and answer all of your questions about the procedure.

Evaluation

You may already be well aware of your pet’s condition, and it may be very apparent that it is time for your pet to say goodbye, but Dr. Audrey wants to conclude that nothing else can be done to improve your pet’s quality of life before beginning the euthanasia procedure. Depending on your pet’s condition it may not be necessary, but with your permission, she will also review your pet’s veterinarian records with you during the evaluation.

Explanation

During your appointment, Dr. Audrey will explain the euthanasia procedure, and will go over what you can expect as well as what your pet will experience. She respects your comfort, so while Dr. Audrey is explaining the procedure to you, she will be stopping to ask If you are ok talking about certain things or have any questions. If at any point there is anything that you are not comfortable talking about, simply let Dr. Audrey know that you prefer not to discuss it.

Q&A

After your initial Phone Consultation with Dr. Audrey, you will most likely have further questions, so during your appointment, she will make sure you have the opportunity to ask all of them. You may want to write your questions down to have them handy during your appointment with Dr. Audrey, as it is common for people to forget what they were going to ask when under emotional stress or having anxiety.

Sedation

Before Dr. Audrey begins the euthanasia procedure, she will give your pet a sedative to relax and calm them, which will ease any stress or discomfort that your pet may be feeling. Of course you want your pet to be comfortable, not in distress or in pain, and for this to be a peaceful and smooth transition for them. Dr. Audrey wants the same thing for your pet, which is why she puts so much effort and care into making the whole process as gentle as possible for your pet.

The Final Gift

Once your pet is in a tranquil and calm state, Dr. Audrey will start the euthanasia procedure by giving your pet an anesthetic, which will cause your pet to peacefully pass in a short period of time. Your pet will not feel any pain, and will not suffer. They will be comfortable, quiet, and relaxed. After the procedure is finished, Dr. Audrey will step outside to give you and your family some time with your pet in privacy until you are ready for her to carry your pet to her vehicle and take them to the aftercare facility, if desired.

Aftercare

While you are having your appointment with Dr. Audrey, she will go over your aftercare options for your pet, and you will need to choose an aftercare option at this time. Some county ordinances will not allow you to bury your pet at home, so Dr. Audrey will make aftercare arrangements for you with an eco-friendly aftercare facility. Most people choose to have Dr. Audrey take their pet to the aftercare facility for cremation. Dr. Audrey will personally bring your pet's ashes back home.
